Ufuoma McDermott opens up about her struggle with kidney disease
Nollywood actress Ufuoma McDermott has bravely shared her journey with kidney disease, revealing that she has been battling the illness for 12 years.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the 43-year-old actress discussed the challenges she faced after being diagnosed with stage three kidney disease, which later progressed to stage four.
Ufuoma expressed her fears during this difficult time, saying, “I thought I was going to die because I didn’t listen to my doctors’ advice.” She explained how her health struggles affected her, especially as a mother of young children. “People don’t understand when I say I can’t afford to gain weight—I just want to survive.”
Reflecting on the past year, Ufuoma described it as particularly tough. “Last year was a very trying time in my life. I was negotiating with my doctor, who advised me to go home and rest. But I was worried that if I went home, I might not come back,” she recalled.
Her doctor urged her to take it easy and prioritize her health, emphasizing the importance of rest. “She mixed up my medications for me, but despite her advice, I went back on set,” Ufuoma said.
Through her experience, Ufuoma hopes to raise awareness about kidney disease and the importance of listening to medical advice.
