South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has confirmed that she has recorded a song with Nigerian Afrobeats megastar Wizkid, marking the first collaboration between the two African music icons.
Tyla made the revelation during an interaction with a fan on X (formerly Twitter), who asked if the track in question featured Wizkid. She responded by confirming the collaboration, saying, “Yess, made the song in 2022, freestyled a melody in his hotel room. Me korey prime n vibesss.”
The track, recorded in 2022, predates Tyla’s rise to global stardom with her 2023 breakout hit “Water.” Although the official release date has not been announced, the song will be Tyla’s second release of 2025, following her single “Bliss” in May.
The collaboration is being celebrated as a significant milestone for Tyla, who has repeatedly expressed admiration for Wizkid. It also reflects a broader trend of African artists teaming up to push the continent’s sound to global audiences.
Before this, Tyla had collaborated with several Nigerian stars, including Ayra Starr on “Girl Next Door” (May 2023), Tems on “No 1” from her debut album, and Omah Lay on DJ Spinall’s “One Call.”
The singer continues to enjoy a successful 2025, recently winning the American Music Award (AMA) for Best Afrobeats Artist, adding to her growing list of international accolades earned throughout 2024.
