Troost-Ekong tasks Super Eagles to get all three points against Zimbabwe

On Monday, March 24, William Troost-Ekong, captain of the Super Eagles, issued a strong warning to his teammates ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday evening.

He cautioned them against complacency as they aim to keep their World Cup dreams alive.

Nigeria revived their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada, with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda on Friday. This victory marked Nigeria’s first win in the qualification campaign, bringing their total to six points from five games. However, they remain fourth in the standings with five more games to play.

Troost-Ekong stressed the importance of their upcoming match against Zimbabwe, emphasizing that the Super Eagles must secure all three points. “We are looking forward to a win. The three points are important to us. At this stage, we cannot afford to drop any more points,” he said.

He continued, “Our aim is to take it one match at a time, collect three points here and there, and hope fervently that these will be enough to get us the ticket.”

A win against Zimbabwe would provide a significant boost to Nigeria’s qualification campaign and further solidify their position in the race for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
