Troops eliminate seven Boko Haram, ISWAP fighters in Borno

On Thursday, May 22, security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that troops of Operation Hadin Kai had successfully neutralized seven suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters during separate clearance operations in Rann and Damboa areas of Borno State.
The first operation took place on Wednesday when troops from 3 Battalion, in collaboration with Hybrid Forces and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), confronted a group of terrorists attempting to loot food items from a broken-down vehicle along the Gamboru–Ngala Main Supply Route, near Rann. In a swift response, the troops engaged the assailants, killing six of them and recovering two AK-47 rifles, each loaded with a magazine—one containing four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and the other six rounds.
In a second operation, troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Molai, acting on credible intelligence, ambushed a group of insurgents near Komala village along the Maiduguri–Damboa road in Damboa Local Government Area. The ambush, aimed at terrorists believed to be heading toward the Sambisa Forest, resulted in the death of one insurgent. During the operation, the troops also seized several motorcycles and materials used for assembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which were intended to be planted along the road.
Military sources confirmed that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to restrict terrorist movement and ensure the safety of civilians in the Northeast, as Nigerian forces continue to make significant strides in dislodging terrorists from critical flashpoints in the region.
