Troops arrest suspected ISWAP member in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

A counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a post on X.

According to Makama, troops of the 25 Brigade, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), apprehended the suspect at about 6:30 p.m. on March 18 following intelligence on a suspicious phone conversation between him and another suspected terrorist.

He added that the suspect, who resides within the Damboa area, confessed during preliminary interrogation to being a member of ISWAP, claiming he had disengaged from active operations.

“The suspect and his mobile phone are currently in custody for further investigation and necessary action,” Makama said.

Military authorities stated that troops will continue intelligence-driven operations aimed at tracking and dismantling terrorist cells in the region.
