A terrible accident involving a petrol tanker on Saturday, January 25, 2025, has resulted in a devastating explosion, leaving many people injured and some tragically dead in Enugu State.
The accident happened on the Ugwu Onyeama Federal Highway, where a tanker carrying petrol crashed and caught fire, causing massive destruction. Several cars were burned, and there were many reported injuries.
One of the witnesses, a tanker driver, shared his heartbreaking account of what happened.
“Yes, there was a big tragedy this afternoon at Ugwu Onyeama Federal Highway. A tanker carrying petrol fell on the hilly road and spilled the fuel. Unfortunately, it caught fire, and all the cars on the road caught fire too, burning people beyond recognition,” he said.
“Right now, over 10 people, including children, have been burned beyond recognition. Some of the bodies are being taken to the morgue, and others were taken earlier,” he continued.
As the fire raged, roads in the area became blocked, and many people were trapped. “There’s no way through the road now. I’m stuck here in Ngwo. The second lane is completely blocked, and the fire spread all the way to Agu-abor.”
Authorities are working hard to manage the situation, but the effects of this accident are heartbreaking.
