Canadian rapper Tory Lanez is in critical condition after being stabbed 14 times by another inmate in prison, according to a statement released by his team on Instagram.
The attack, which occurred inside a housing unit, left Lanez with multiple wounds seven to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. His lungs reportedly collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing machine.
“Tory was stabbed 14 times… Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own,” the statement read.
TMZ reported that prison staff responded swiftly, administering first aid before rushing him to a hospital outside the prison grounds for further treatment.
Despite the severity of the attack, Lanez is said to be recovering. His team noted that he is now breathing unaided, speaking normally, and in good spirits. The rapper also expressed deep gratitude to God and thanked fans for their prayers and support.
The motive for the stabbing remains unclear, and prison authorities have yet to release further information about the attacker or whether charges have been filed.
Lanez is currently serving a prison sentence following his conviction for the 2020 shooting of fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion.
