Tiwa Savage reveals why she refuses to sign new artistes

On Friday, March 7, Tiwa Savage, the celebrated Nigerian music icon, revealed why she has chosen not to sign up-and-coming artistes to her roster.

Speaking during an interview with Forbes Africa, the 45-year-old star explained that, while she is deeply invested in the growth of the Nigerian music scene, she feels unequipped to manage the complexities of guiding emerging talents.

Savage confessed that managing the behavior of new artistes is a significant challenge, one she doesn’t feel fully prepared to take on. “Everyone always asks, when are you going to sign an artiste? I don’t think I have the gift to sign artistes because they are stressful,” she said. “I could just wake up from sleep and my artiste is trending for something else.”

Instead of directly signing artistes, Tiwa Savage has a different vision for nurturing new talent. She shared her plans to build a music school where aspiring singers can hone their skills and later be signed by established labels better equipped to manage their careers. “I have the gift to help, which is why I’m trying to have a music school, where artistes can go and later sign to a label that can actually help,” she said.

Savage’s approach reflects a desire to foster long-term success for emerging artistes, giving them the foundation and guidance needed before they take the next step in their musical careers.
