Tinubu’s wife announces ₦50 million grants, sanitary pad distribution for vulnerable groups

At least 250 persons with disabilities across Nigeria will receive grants worth ₦50 million to support and grow their small businesses, according to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Speaking at a Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) event held on Friday at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Abia State, Mrs. Tinubu said the initiative also includes the distribution of 10,000 packs of sanitary pads to young girls, particularly in rural areas, under the “Flow with Confidence” programme. The aim is to help girls stay in school throughout their menstrual cycles.
Represented by the wife of the Vice President and Vice Chairperson of RHI, Hajiya Nana Shettima, the First Lady explained that the programmes align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and are designed to uplift the most vulnerable Nigerians.
Each beneficiary with a disability will receive ₦200,000, with grants to be disbursed across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“In the area of Education, the ‘Flow with Confidence’ programme will distribute 10,000 packs of sanitary pads enough to last a year to young girls,” she said, according to a statement issued by Kwapchi Bata Hamman, Special Assistant to the President on Media and ICT (Office of the Vice President).
Senator Tinubu also reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to tackling food insecurity through the expansion of the RHI Food Outreach Scheme, which began on March 8, 2024. At the Umuahia event, she handed over food supplies to the state’s RHI Coordinator and wife of the Abia State governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti.
“We at RHI are implementing several impactful interventions that are touching lives across the nation,” she said, urging beneficiaries to use the food items to support their families.
The First Lady commended Mrs. Otti for her contributions to the successful implementation of RHI programmes in Abia State.
