Tinubu says APC open to welcoming Wike into ruling party

President Bola Tinubu has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is open to receiving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, into its fold whenever he decides to switch allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) connecting Ring Road One (Nnamdi Azikiwe Way) to Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Road), as well as other roads in the Katampe District of Abuja, Tinubu praised Wike’s performance and expressed optimism about his potential alignment with the APC.

“With Wike, the APC will continue to be in a joyous mood, while our rivals will continue to writhe in pain,” the president said.

Wike, currently a member of the PDP, has been at the center of political speculation following his appointment as FCT Minister by an APC-led federal government. His role in the Tinubu administration has fueled ongoing rumors about a possible defection.

The PDP has been grappling with internal leadership challenges since the run-up to the 2023 presidential election, which saw Wike clash with key party figures over zoning and presidential ticket issues.

Tinubu’s remarks add to the growing indications that the ruling party may be positioning itself to absorb influential figures from the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
