Tinubu names Shamseldeen Ogunjimi as new Acting Accountant General of the Federation

On Monday, December 9, President Bola Tinubu made a big announcement: Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi is now the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF). This change comes after the current AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, began her pre-retirement leave.

The appointment of Ogunjimi, which starts immediately, ensures that Nigeria’s financial systems continue running smoothly during this important time of change.

In a statement released on Monday, December 9, by Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, it was shared that Ogunjimi is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience. “As a career civil servant and the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), Mr. Ogunjimi brings over 30 years of extensive experience in financial management across the public and private sectors,” Onanuga said.

Mr. Ogunjimi has held many important roles, including being the Director of Funds at OAGF and the Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is a chartered accountant, a certified fraud examiner, a chartered stockbroker, and a chartered security and investment specialist. His education includes a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting.

President Tinubu expressed full confidence in Ogunjimi’s ability to handle the important role, saying, “The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr. Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda.”

The President also took a moment to thank Dr. Madein for her hard work and dedication. After reaching the official retirement age, Dr. Madein will retire on March 7, 2025.
