Tinubu mourns soldiers killed in Borno attack, urges troops to remain resolute

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the killing of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the attack, which occurred early Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in multiple casualties among the troops.
The President extended condolences to the military and families of the fallen soldiers, praising their courage in confronting insurgents and preventing them from overrunning nearby communities.
He noted that the armed forces had sustained intense land and air offensives against insurgents, neutralising several fighters and commanders, describing the latest attack as a sign of desperation by the terrorists.
“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country,” Tinubu said.
While mourning the loss, the President urged the Armed Forces not to be discouraged but to remain committed to the fight against terrorism.
“Do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged. Our officers and men should continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism. The government will always stand by the Armed Forces and ensure their welfare,” he added.
Tinubu also called on Nigerians and the media to support the military in its ongoing operations against insurgency and banditry, stressing that the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers would not be in vain.
He further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, assuring continued collaboration to achieve lasting peace and security.
