Tinubu jokes about sending Akpabio to scatter opposition

President Bola Tinubu has stirred reactions after jokingly suggesting he might send Senate President Godswill Akpabio to “scatter” the opposition parties. The President made these remarks on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) headquarters in Abuja.
Tinubu teased that the opposition is currently confused and lacks a stable structure to challenge the ruling government. He laughingly told Akpabio to represent him on “the other side” to further disrupt their ranks.
Insecurity linked to 2027 election maneuvers
During the event, Senate President Akpabio alleged that the recent spike in insecurity across Nigeria is politically motivated. He claimed that desperate politicians are using violence to distract the President and create chaos ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio argued that no political party in the country is currently stable enough to win an election through legitimate structures. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against those trying to undermine the peace of the nation for political gain.
Senate President defends INEC chairman over old tweets
Akpabio also addressed the controversy surrounding an alleged social media post by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan. Critics have attacked the chairman over a tweet that supposedly claimed “victory is sure” before his appointment.
The Senate President defended the chairman, noting that he was just a lecturer when he made the comment and had the right to support any candidate. He insisted that people are only trying to manipulate the narrative to create distrust in the commission.
