The inspiring story of Leah Sharibu and how we can help her

On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the story of Leah Sharibu remains one of bravery and faith, and it’s a call to action for everyone—soldiers, leaders, and especially the Christian community. Leah was abducted by the terrorist group Boko Haram, and she is still being held captive.

However, what makes Leah’s story so powerful is how she refused to give up her faith, even when she was faced with terrible choices. Leah made a stand for what she believes in, even when it was hard, and we can all learn from her courage.

Leah has been held by Boko Haram for a long time, but there is new hope. Recently, a program was announced to help 800 Boko Haram members who are being re-educated, and there’s a chance that they might know where Leah is. Soldiers can now use this information to find Leah and bring her home, but we must also understand that soldiers can’t do it alone when they are struggling with their own challenges, like not having enough food at home.

The government has made many promises to improve things, but food and fuel prices are still high, and families are still struggling. If our soldiers don’t have enough support, it’s harder for them to stay focused on their mission.

But there’s something we can all do: we can pray. The Christian community can come together for a national time of prayer and fasting for Leah’s freedom. Just like when Moses needed help holding his arms up during battle and Joshua and Hur supported him, our prayers can be the strength needed to bring Leah home. We saw how prayer helped free the Apostle Peter, and together, we can pray that Leah will be freed from Boko Haram’s control.

If we all join together in prayer and action, Leah’s rescue could finally become a reality. Let’s work together to bring this brave young girl home.
