Tacha criticizes met gala looks of Tems, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy

Reality TV star and influencer, Tacha Akide, has stirred online reactions after openly criticizing the red carpet appearances of Nigerian celebrities at the 2025 Met Gala, describing their fashion choices as underwhelming.
In a viral social media post, Tacha voiced her disappointment with the outfits worn by Afrobeats stars Tems, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy, all of whom made their debut at the prestigious fashion event in New York. According to her, the stars failed to make a strong fashion statement on behalf of Nigeria.
“I think someone had to say it. So the Nigerians at the Met Gala did not represent and this is coming from a place of love,” she wrote. “You know I love Ayra Starr and Tems, and I’m crazy about Burna Boy but trust me, they didn’t represent at all.”
Her comments have sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms, with some fans supporting her candor while others accused her of being unnecessarily harsh.
Tems, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy made history at the 2025 edition of the Met Gala, themed “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, as part of the first wave of Afrobeats artists invited to the globally acclaimed event.
Despite the milestone, the reception to their fashion choices both at home and abroad has been sharply divided, with Tacha’s remarks reigniting broader conversations about celebrity styling, cultural representation, and red carpet expectations.
