Buhari says Nigeria’s economy and security are better than in 2015

On Friday, February 7, 2025, former president Muhammadu Buhari shared that Nigeria’s economy and security were in a much stronger position during his time in office. He made the comments while welcoming the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists to his home in Daura, Katsina State.
Buhari proudly stated, “Nigeria’s security and economy improved significantly under my administration compared to what we met in 2015.”
The former president expressed his belief that the improvements made during his leadership would continue benefiting the country, saying, “Things will continue to improve in Nigeria.”
However, not everyone agrees with his perspective. In June 2024, former Senator Shehu Sani argued that insecurity was actually worse during Buhari’s presidency than under the current president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Similarly, in an interview on Channels Television in September 2024, Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said that Nigeria’s economy was in a worse state under Buhari than under Tinubu.
According to DAILY POST, Nigeria’s inflation rate has continued to rise in recent months, reaching 34.80 percent in December 2024—much higher than the 9.6 percent inflation rate in December 2015.
