Real Madrid have reportedly placed Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, on their transfer shortlist for the upcoming summer window. The move comes as the club prepares for a significant squad overhaul following a challenging campaign in Spain.
The Spanish giants are looking to bolster their attacking options with the powerful Nigerian international. Club officials believe Osimhen’s physical presence would provide a new dimension to an attack that already features elite talents like Kylian Mbappe.
Jose Mourinho identified as potential head coach
The pursuit of Osimhen appears closely linked to the potential appointment of Jose Mourinho as the next Real Madrid manager. Mourinho has long been an admirer of the striker since their time together in the Italian Serie A.
The Portuguese tactician has famously compared Osimhen to Didier Drogba, the legendary forward he once signed for Chelsea. Mourinho is reportedly keen on making Osimhen the spearhead of his tactical setup at the Bernabeu.
Conditions set for Mourinho’s return to Madrid
Talks regarding Mourinho’s return to the Spanish capital are already underway through his agent, Jorge Mendes. However, the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has reportedly set specific conditions before finalizing any deal.
Mourinho wants a significant voice in the club’s recruitment process to ensure the squad is strengthened in key areas. He also seeks full autonomy for his coaching staff and minimal interference from the club’s hierarchy in dressing room matters.
Strategic fit for the Madrid attacking line
Real Madrid’s leadership believes that having a traditional number nine like Osimhen would free up space for other star forwards. His aerial ability and strength are seen as perfect complements to the speed of Vinicius Jr and Mbappe.
While Osimhen is currently with Galatasaray, the lure of the Bernabeu and a reunion with Mourinho could prove decisive. If the deal goes through, it would mark one of the most significant transfers for a Nigerian player in football history.
