Soldier killed, others injured as private vehicle runs Into Nigerian army troops in Lagos

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of a soldier and injuries to several others after a private vehicle recklessly ran into troops during the army’s Bi-Annual Route March near Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State, on Friday.

According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the deceased soldier’s body has been deposited in the mortuary, while the injured personnel are receiving treatment at 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Yaba.

The 81 Division Military Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured soldiers a speedy recovery.

In light of the tragic incident, Major General Mijinyawa urged the public to remain calm, assuring that a thorough investigation was underway.

Despite the setback, the 81 Division reaffirmed its commitment to training, operational readiness, and safeguarding lives and property within its jurisdiction.

“This tragic loss will not deter the Division’s dedication to safeguarding lives and properties within its Area of Operations in accordance with the Nigerian Army’s constitutional mandate,” the statement read.
