Skales boldly claims he inspired Burna Boy’s rise to fame
Nigerian singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known as Skales, has claimed that he played a pivotal role in the early success of his fellow artist, Burna Boy, stating that the Port Harcourt-born musician lacked a major hit before their collaboration on the 2017 remix of “Temper.”
Speaking during a candid interview with Naija FM in Lagos on Friday, November 29, 2024, Skales explained that while Burna Boy has since gone on to achieve international fame, he believes he had a significant influence on the Grammy-winning star’s career at the time.
“I inspired Burna Boy. He will agree with me,” Skales confidently stated. “So, nobody helped anybody. We probably admire each other and decide to work together.”
The 2017 collaboration was a turning point, according to Skales. He recalled that Burna Boy didn’t have a major hit before their partnership, but after their song together, Burna Boy’s career began to take off.
“I’m not trying to take credit for his success, but he has inspired me over the years and I believe I inspired him at a point, too,” Skales added.
Despite the bold claim, Skales acknowledged Burna Boy’s influence on his own journey, emphasizing that the essence of collaboration is mutual admiration and support.
