Singer portable faces multiple legal troubles, arrests, and controversies over the years

Popular Nigerian singer Portable, known for his controversial persona, has had multiple run-ins with the law, making headlines for legal issues, altercations, and brushes with law enforcement. His most notable incidents span from 2022 to 2025, ranging from cultism allegations to assault and financial disputes.

In July 2022, Portable sparked controversy after claiming to be the leader of the notorious One Million Boys cult, a criminal gang linked to violent activities in Lagos State. The police ordered an investigation following his statement, with the Lagos State Police Commissioner confirming that authorities were looking into the claim.

Portable was arrested on March 31, 2023, after ignoring a 72-hour ultimatum issued by the Ogun State Police Command. His arrest followed allegations that he assaulted a man at his bar, Odogwu Bar, in Ogun State. The police reported that Portable had repeatedly refused to honor invitations, leading to officers being sent to detain him. After spending a weekend in custody, he was arraigned in court and granted bail.

In April 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) cracked down on individuals accused of abusing the naira, including social media personality Bobrisky and businessman Cubana Chief Priest. Concerned about facing similar charges for spraying naira notes, Portable publicly pleaded for forgiveness during an Instagram live session, promising never to engage in the act again.

On May 14, 2024, Portable was arrested over a ₦27 million G-Wagon debt after failing to complete payment to a car dealer. Videos circulating on social media showed the moment police officers attempted to detain him, prompting him to jump over a gate in an escape attempt. However, he was later apprehended and taken into custody.

In February 2025, the Ogun State Police Command declared Portable wanted after he and his associates allegedly attacked government officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority. The officials had visited his bar in Iyana Ilogbo to enforce regulatory compliance when they were allegedly assaulted and their equipment vandalized.

Nine of his associates were arrested and arraigned, while Portable went into hiding. However, he turned himself in to police in Lagos on February 19, 2025, ending a brief manhunt.

Portable’s repeated legal troubles have sparked debates about accountability and celebrity behavior in Nigeria. As authorities continue to monitor his activities, it remains to be seen how his legal challenges will impact his career.
