Shock defeat! Super Eagles lose 2-1 to Rwanda in surprise upset
On Monday, November 18, the Super Eagles of Nigeria faced a shocking 2-1 loss to Rwanda in their final match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The game took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where fans were expecting a win. The Super Eagles were already through to next year’s tournament as winners of Group D, so they were playing with some confidence.
In the second half, Nigeria took the lead with a stunning solo goal by Samuel Chukwueze in the 59th minute. It seemed like the Super Eagles would keep control of the match, but Rwanda had other plans.
Just minutes later, Rwanda quickly scored two goals. First, Ange Mutsinzi leveled the score, and then Innocent Nshuti scored a dramatic second to give Rwanda their very first-ever victory over Nigeria.
It was a tough blow for the Super Eagles, and it was also the first defeat for interim manager Augustine Eguavoen, who may be stepping down from his role after the game.
