Shinkafi criticizes Tinubu’s appointments, sounds 2027 warning

Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s appointments, particularly highlighting what he describes as an imbalance in the Northwest, where Zamfara State—one of the key states that contributed to Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election—has been largely overlooked.

Speaking to journalists in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, during the inauguration of his political movement, the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front (WSDF), Shinkafi urged President Tinubu to address this imbalance in federal appointments and to ramp up efforts to resolve the ongoing security crisis troubling Zamfara residents.

Shinkafi, who had resigned from his position as the National Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to join APC alongside former Zamfara State Governor Bello Mohammed, expressed disappointment over Zamfara’s treatment. He pointed out that despite being one of only two Northwestern states (along with Jigawa) that voted for Tinubu in the 2023 election, Zamfara has not been adequately recognized in federal appointments.

He said, “The distribution of appointments under Tinubu’s administration is a betrayal of the people of Zamfara.” He warned that if this issue is not addressed, it could cost Tinubu critical support in the 2027 election, as the Northwest may withhold the overwhelming support it gave him previously.

Shinkafi also emphasized the need for intensified efforts to combat insecurity, particularly in Zamfara, where armed groups continue to attack, abduct, and displace innocent civilians. He called for the president to prioritize security in the state.

Additionally, Shinkafi expressed concern over the deep division within the APC in Zamfara, claiming that party members have lost trust in its leadership. He vowed to resist any attempts to impose candidates in the 2027 elections, calling for a strict adherence to internal party democracy to restore fairness and unity within the party.
