Shamsedeen Ogunjimi is named new Accountant General of the Federation

On Tuesday, March 4, President Bola Tinubu announced the appointment of Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation. This appointment follows a thorough and fair selection process, ensuring the best candidate for the job.
The official statement shared by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, explained that Ogunjimi’s appointment will take effect on Friday, March 7, the same day the current Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, will retire.
Ogunjimi, who is 57 years old, was first chosen to succeed Madehin last December. The selection was carried out through a series of challenging steps, including written tests, a computer skills assessment, and interviews. This process made sure that only the most qualified person was selected for the important role.
President Tinubu praised the careful and fair selection process and highlighted its focus on transparency, excellence, and skill. He also congratulated Ogunjimi on his new position, urging him to serve Nigeria with honesty, professionalism, and a strong commitment to the country’s growth.
Ogunjimi graduated in 1990 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a degree in Accountancy. He later earned a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
This marks an exciting new chapter for Nigeria’s public service, with Ogunjimi set to bring his knowledge and experience to this important role.
