Senator Ndume urges Tinubu to dismiss more underperforming ministers, praises recent shake-up
Senator Ali Ndume has urged President Bola Tinubu to remove additional ministers who are underperforming, despite recent changes aimed at improving the cabinet’s effectiveness. Ndume, representing Borno South in the National Assembly, commended Tinubu’s decision to reshuffle the cabinet, scrap outdated ministries, and establish new ones to align with his ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda for Nigeria.
The senator’s statement was released on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
Following a cabinet reshuffle on October 23, Tinubu dismissed five ministers, appointed seven new ones, and reassigned ten others to different portfolios. Additionally, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs was dissolved and replaced by the Ministry of Regional Development, tasked with overseeing Nigeria’s regional commissions.
Ndume welcomed these moves but insisted more changes are necessary to drive the administration’s development goals. He suggested that Tinubu organize a national economic summit led by respected former officials, including Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Oby Ezekwesili, and experts such as Akinwumi Adesina and Arunma Oteh. He argued that their recommendations would better serve Nigeria’s needs than those from international financial bodies like the IMF and World Bank.
Praising Tinubu’s efforts to cut governance costs amid economic challenges, Ndume encouraged other government branches to adopt similar measures for the country’s welfare.
