Senate President rules out impeachment of President Tinubu, APC governors endorse second term

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday dismissed any possibility of impeaching President Bola Tinubu, stating that with two years left in his first tenure, the current National Assembly will not initiate such a move.
Speaking at the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja, Akpabio emphasized that the legislature is bold enough to hold the president accountable but currently sees no grounds for impeachment.
“If this president has done well, is it not us (National Assembly) that will say so? If he has not done well, is it not us that will give him notice of impeachment? We are not giving him notice of impeachment; we are giving him notice that it was difficult for you in 2023, but in 2027 I see everything turning around—the number of states that are coming to join you,” Akpabio said.
In a show of support for President Tinubu’s leadership and political future, the APC Governors’ Forum unanimously endorsed him for a second term in office. Governor Hope Uzodimma urged APC governors to take responsibility for promoting federal government policies and ensuring electoral victories across their states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Uzodimma stated, “It is therefore my humble pleasure, with total humility to the Almighty God, to move that this august assembly adopt and concur with the position of the Progressive Governors that Mr. President carries our flag in 2027, and the governors take the responsibility for delivering this mandate. I so move.”
The endorsement signals strong intra-party backing for Tinubu as the APC gears up for the next electoral cycle.
