Sanwo-Olu backs APC candidates ahead of Lagos LG polls, urges party unity

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged full support for all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates contesting in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2025.
The governor made this known on Tuesday, June 17, during the official flag-off of the APC campaign at the party’s state secretariat in Ogba, Lagos. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Sanwo-Olu assured party members that his administration is committed to securing a sweeping victory for the APC.
As part of the event, party flags were presented to 57 chairmanship and 376 councillorship candidates running under the APC across the state’s local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs).
“The love I have for this party is unquantifiable. I am with all the candidates,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
“This is not just an official flag-off—it symbolizes the beginning of hard work and dedication. We are solidly behind every aspirant. We are in this together, and all will be successful by God’s grace.”
He called on party faithful to remain focused on the APC’s progressive ideals, emphasizing that the election is not only about winning seats but also about delivering meaningful change and sustaining President Bola Tinubu’s legacy.
“We are not only here to win an election. We are here to change the lives of our people and continue the legacy of our President,” he added.
Party leaders call for grassroots mobilisation and service
Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), urged candidates to make genuine service to the people their top priority if elected.
“The love of our community and society should be paramount. Those who didn’t get the party ticket should remain patient—tomorrow offers another chance,” Olusi said.
He also encouraged APC youth members to organize into grassroots groups and engage in street-level mobilisation to strengthen the party’s support base across Lagos.
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, echoed calls for unity, urging all members to respect the party’s internal decisions and work together.
“The party is supreme. We must stand by the decision of the party, obey its directives, and support all our candidates. We must not fight ourselves,” Obasa warned.
He described the local government elections as a “testing ground” for the APC’s future ambitions, especially its goal of securing a landslide re-election for President Tinubu in 2027.
With just weeks to the polls, the Lagos APC leadership is ramping up mobilisation efforts, promising a campaign focused on party discipline, grassroots outreach, and the delivery of tangible development at the local level.
