Rufai Oseni warns Osun result will not automatically repeat in 2027 general elections

Arise Television’s The Morning Show anchor Rufai Oseni has warned Nigerians against assuming that the outcome of the 2026 Osun State governorship election will be replicated in the 2027 general elections.
Oseni said the public must understand the risks surrounding 2027 and prepare for the challenges ahead. He argued that the federal capacity deployed during the Osun contest could be applied on a larger scale next year. Speaking on Monday, he said his earlier warnings about Osun were intended to equip voters with a realistic assessment rather than to frighten them.
“Last week, when I was telling the people the challenges they would face, it was not to scare them. No, I believe in telling the people the truth so that they know how to react to dangers,” he said. “If you think because Osun people stood up, it will be easy in 2027, you are foolish. You are delusional. 2027 is going to be different from Osun. The federal might that they used and couldn’t execute, they will use it three times over. They will go back to the drawing board and try to perfect it.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the Osun election on Sunday. Oseni’s intervention treats that result as a local outcome, not a template. The structural point is scale. A state contest and a nationwide general election differ in the volume of resources, the number of contested offices and the intensity of coordination available to actors who seek to influence the process. Assuming that resistance successful in one setting will automatically succeed in the other, he argues, underestimates that difference.
