Referee David Coote banned by UEFA until 2026 following controversial videos

UEFA has handed English referee David Coote a ban until June 30, 2026, following several controversies.

The decision was confirmed by European football’s governing body on Friday. Coote had previously been dismissed by the English Football Association last December after a video surfaced of him making offensive remarks about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.

UEFA also launched an investigation into Coote after a separate video emerged in which he appeared to be snorting white powder during Euro 2024.

In the disciplinary ruling, UEFA’s control, ethics, and disciplinary body confirmed that Coote is banned from all UEFA refereeing activities, citing violations of “basic rules of decent conduct” and actions that brought “the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute.”
