Real Madrid consider move for Victor Boniface as Xabi Alonso seeks backup striker

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly eyeing Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface as a potential addition to his squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
According to The Athletic, the Spanish tactician — who took over from Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabéu this summer — has requested that the club sign a “Joselu-style” striker: an affordable, experienced forward who would be content with a secondary role but capable of making a meaningful impact when called upon.
Alonso is familiar with Boniface, having worked with him during his highly successful stint as Leverkusen manager, where the Nigerian international was instrumental in the club’s historic Bundesliga-winning campaign.
Boniface, 23, is known for his physical presence, work rate, and ability to score off the bench — qualities that fit the profile Madrid are targeting. Alonso is also said to have referenced Borja Iglesias, another player with a similar profile he utilized at Leverkusen.
While no official offer has been made yet, Madrid’s hierarchy is reportedly open to fulfilling Alonso’s request, as the club seeks to add depth behind main strikers Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior heading into a demanding season.
A potential deal for Boniface would depend on Leverkusen’s valuation and the player’s willingness to accept a reduced role at one of the biggest clubs in world football.
