Rapper Ladipoe speaks on money and relationships, says men feel the need to provide

Nigerian rapper Ladipoe has shared his views on the financial expectations in relationships, stating that men naturally feel the need to provide, though he remains unsure whether this is a good or bad thing.
Speaking as a guest on the Midday Show, Ladipoe addressed the growing discussion around the billing culture—where men are expected to cover expenses in relationships. He expressed skepticism about viral stories of unfair financial demands, suggesting that healthy relationships tend to balance out naturally.
“I really wonder if people are telling the truth with the stories they say online because if you’re with a reasonable person, it usually works itself out. If I invite you to dinner, I’m paying. I don’t understand why there’s even a conversation about it,” he said.
He acknowledged that providing for a partner is an important expectation placed on men, but he also emphasized that relationships should go beyond financial support.
“As a guy, there’s this energy that you need to provide. I don’t know if that’s a positive thing or not. A man needs to realize that there’s more beyond just being able to provide, but it’s an important characteristic in a relationship.”
Ladipoe also praised his current partner for reciprocating his generosity, revealing that she gives him gifts “just because,” which motivates him to provide for her even more.
“That’s why I’m with the person I’m with. She pours into me as well, and that’s what drives me to say I want to provide for this person. But nobody wants to be taken advantage of,” he added.
His remarks have sparked discussions about financial responsibilities in modern relationships, with many weighing in on the evolving expectations between partners.
