Senator Natasha to face disciplinary panel over seat controversy

On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, will face a disciplinary panel over her recent outburst regarding her seat reallocation in the Senate.

The controversy began when Akpoti-Uduaghan’s seat was reassigned within the Senate chamber without her consent. She was moved from her original position in the minority section to the last row, a change she strongly opposed. Her refusal to comply with the new seating arrangement was considered a violation of Senate rules.

In a statement on the floor of the Senate, Akpabio explained that a motion had been raised to refer the matter to the Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions Committee for further investigation. After the investigation, the committee will report back to the chamber.

Akpabio said, “There’s a motion before us that we should refer the entirety of the saga to our Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, and then revert back to us. But let me just read this for the record, even the first time the issue came up here our distinguished sister was not even speaking from her seat. And that was when we tried to call her to order.”

Now, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan will face the disciplinary process as the Senate moves forward with the investigation.
