Progressive Governors Forum denies voting out Hope Uzodimma

Eighteen governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have passed a vote of confidence in Governor Hope Uzodimma. The move reaffirms his position as the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), effectively dismissing reports of his sudden replacement.

The drama began following rumors of a “leadership coup” allegedly staged during a late-night meeting in Abuja. However, the Director General of the forum, Folorunsho Aluko, swiftly denied these claims, stating that no such resolution was ever passed by the group.

Presidential intervention secures stability within the forum

Sources suggest that the Presidency intervened to douse the tension and maintain the status quo within the powerful governors’ bloc. Following the intervention, Uzodimma summoned an emergency troubleshooting meeting where the majority of APC governors publicly declared their solidarity.

Governors from Lagos, Borno, Kano, and several other states attended the closed-door session at the Imo Lodge in Abuja. The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, moved the motion for the vote of confidence, emphasizing that both Uzodimma and his deputy, Uba Sani, retain their roles.

Focus shifts to performance and 2027 elections

Governor Uba Sani described the earlier reports of a leadership change as unfortunate and insisted that the forum is now stronger and more united. He stated that the governors are collectively committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration and ensuring party harmony.

The forum noted that its primary objective is to deliver social interventions and governance that will benefit the Nigerian people. By resolving the leadership friction, the governors aim to present a united front ahead of the party’s primaries and the general elections in 2027.

Uzodimma vows to work harder for national success

Responding to the vote of confidence, Uzodimma stressed that the APC governors are resolved to ensure the President’s success in the upcoming 2027 polls. He noted that the resolution of the internal conflict allows the forum to focus on performance and service delivery.

The PGF chairman emphasized that the unity of the governors is essential for the stability of the ruling party and the nation at large. With the leadership crisis averted, the APC governors intend to intensify their efforts in providing effective representation across their respective states.
