PROFOH: How an American missionary and a Nigerian visionary built a global surgical powerhouse

What began as a localized response to a regional humanitarian crisis has officially matured into an international medical network spanning over two decades of volunteer service.

In 1998, Nigerian humanitarian Gbemuotor Kama teamed up with American missionary Cliff Jarrell to found Professionals for Humanity (PROFOH) in West Africa. Following an official, high-profile launch at the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt in May 2000, the duo welcomed German humanitarian Markus von-Have to their executive leadership structure.

Today, that tiny organisation led by Cliff , Kama and Markus has become a global brand.

Professionals For Humanity (PROFOH) is a 28 years global humanitarian organisation with its headquarters in the United States and incorporated in ten additional countries, Canada, Germany, Ghana, Finland, India, Jamaica ,Nepal, Nigeria and South Africa, we have presence in 21 other nations.

As an organisation, PROFOH and its partners have performed more than 27,000 bold and complicated surgeries and no cost to our patients. Additionally, we have also seen 1.7 million patients, (consultation and treatment), immunised thousands of children against polio, supported public schools with writing desks, granted scholarships to hundreds of vulnerable Children in Africa donated large quantities of medical equipment and supplies to hospitals in Nigeria, Ghana, etc.
