The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has claimed that the real goal of President Bola Tinubu’s critics and opposition is to remove him from office, rather than targeting the North.
Yerima Shettima, the National President of AYCF, has called on security agents to arrest and prosecute anyone trying to overthrow Tinubu through protests across the country.
“Nigeria is a sovereign nation with a democratically elected government. We suspect there may be a hidden agenda behind the protests. Security agents should identify and hold accountable those behind these actions.”
He acknowledged the country’s issues, including economic hardships, but emphasized that the protests have made their point and the government is aware of the public’s concerns. “The government is aware of the problems, and while there is pain and hardship, we need to find out who is behind these actions and ensure they are dealt with.”
Shettima also downplayed the likelihood of the protests leading to a revolution. “I don’t believe the protests will lead to a revolution. Nigerians have expressed their views, and the government has noted them. I’m confident that the government will take appropriate action.”
He urged calm, saying, “Uprisings never bring good results. No nation has benefited from violent protests. We need to work together to keep the country stable. Our youths should remain calm and give the government a chance to address the issues. The opposition’s actions have nothing to do with us in the North.”
