President Tinubu Extends Sympathy To Military After Deadly Attack On Army Base In Borno State

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sympathy to the Nigerian military following a terrorist attack on an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State, that claimed the lives of six soldiers in the early hours of January 4, 2025.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice in defence of the nation as “honoured and remembered forever.”

In response to the attack, President Tinubu called for a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. He emphasised the importance of learning from the tragedy to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The President commended the swift retaliation by the armed forces, particularly the air component, which launched targeted airstrikes that neutralised many terrorists and destroyed their assets as they attempted to flee.

“This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security,” President Tinubu stated. “Their actions testify to our resolve to eradicate terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians.”

He further expressed his gratitude to the military and security forces, highlighting their sacrifices and dedication. 

“Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats,” he said.

President Tinubu urged the military to intensify efforts in proactively targeting the camps of bandits and terrorists, with particular attention to the Northwest, where innocent villagers continue to face threats from criminal groups.

He also appealed to Nigerians and the media to support the military in its mission to restore peace and security across the nation.

The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians, promising continued support for the armed forces in their fight against terrorism and banditry.
