Power shake-up in Katsina as three PDP lawmakers join APC, blame party crisis

On Thursday, May 8, three members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives from Katsina State made a big move — they officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), the country’s ruling party.

The announcement was made by Speaker of the House, Rajudeen Abbas, during a live session on the House floor. He read out a letter from the lawmakers explaining why they switched sides.

In the letter, the former PDP members said they could no longer stay in a party full of unresolved issues and internal fights. According to them, the PDP’s instability was making it hard to do their jobs and serve the people who elected them.

They wrote:

“The instability within the PDP has made it difficult to effectively serve our constituents and align with progressive governance.”

The decision wasn’t a quiet one. Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State showed up in the chamber to support the lawmakers as they made their bold switch to the APC.
