Political analyst warns of imminent collapse as PDP faces mortal crisis

On Tuesday, May 27, political and public affairs analyst Mojeed Dahiru delivered a grim prognosis for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring emphatically that the party is on the brink of total collapse.
Speaking on Channels Television, Dahiru analyzed the escalating crisis within the PDP, particularly in the wake of recent party meetings held in Abuja that failed to resolve ongoing disputes and grievances among members.
Reflecting on the party’s struggles, Dahiru stated, “The PDP is a dying party. You see, the Bible says the wages of sin is death. So the PDP is dying because it committed a mortal sin in 2023 and I cannot say this enough.”
He pinpointed the party’s decision to abandon the principle of zoning ahead of the 2023 presidential election as a critical misstep. “When the PDP jettison zoning prior to the 2023 presidential election, when it was supposed to cede the ticket to the South, which supposed to be its most consistent support base, and opted to pick a northerner, the PDP committed a mortal sin.”
Dahiru warned that this error would have lasting consequences: “That sin, the wages of that sin is death. I don’t see PDP surviving as a party beyond 2027 because you see when Atiku happened to the PDP, he developed a wicked problem.”
He further described the party’s predicament as akin to conducting its own funeral rites: “So, it was Atiku’s submission that killed the PDP effectively. So what we can simply be doing is conducting its final rites of passage, and rightly so, because the PDP committed the sin, immortal one, and unfortunately, the party has not repented of that sin and weakness.”
Addressing internal conflicts, Dahiru noted the role of influential members in accelerating the party’s decline. “Wike would not have intended to be an undertaker [taking the PDP to its grave] but you see, there are causes and effects. To every action, there is equal opposite reaction. So the actions of the northern flank of the PDP, led by Atiku and others, is the reaction we are seeing by Wike.”
He concluded that these ongoing tensions and failures to reconcile will inevitably lead to the party’s demise: “So these actions and inactions will invariably lead to the final burial of the PDP.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has publicly vowed to “fight to the finish” amid the turmoil, underscoring the high stakes and deep divisions within Nigeria’s main opposition party.
