Police flag 612 hijacked vehicles, recover three through electronic registry
At a news conference in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the first batch of seven stolen vehicles reported through the E-CMR platform was flagged for investigation, with three already recovered.
One recovered vehicle, stolen from Abuja, was traced to Ilorin, Kwara State, and returned to its rightful owner last weekend.
The E-CMR platform enables vehicle owners to report stolen vehicles, triggering instant alerts to police officers nationwide. This innovative system aims to drastically reduce vehicle theft and related crimes. Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate investigation to dismantle the syndicate responsible for these hijackings.
The success of the E-CMR initiative demonstrates the police force’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance public safety. By utilizing this platform, vehicle owners can protect their property and facilitate swift recovery case of theft.
