Petrol hike: ACC demands immediate return to old price
The Allied Conservative Congress (ACC) has strongly criticized the recent increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the Nigerian government.
In a statement released on Friday, September 6, Rev. Olusegun Obaje Peters, the National Chairman of ACC, described the hike as outrageous and insensitive, claiming it adds unnecessary hardship to citizens.
The party has called for an immediate rollback of the petrol price, demanding it be reduced from its current rate of ₦880 and above back to ₦617.
“It is obvious that an increase in fuel prices will only add to the difficulties faced by citizens, worsen their conditions, and further stagnate the economy,” the statement said.
ACC expressed concern that the Federal Government would raise fuel prices shortly after the #EndHungerProtest, suggesting a disregard for the people’s welfare as outlined in the Constitution of Nigeria, which emphasizes that the security and welfare of the people should be the primary focus of government.
The party argued that governments at all levels should deliver benefits and improvements, not hardship and hunger.
“Nigerians voted for a fair deal and a better life, not deprivation and poverty,” ACC stated. “The government’s role is to implement people-oriented policies that enhance citizens’ living standards, not to frustrate and impoverish them.”
The statement also highlighted a promise made by the government to lower fuel prices with increased supply, which has not been fulfilled due to alleged corruption and inefficiency in the oil sector.
ACC also called for the Federal Government to approve licenses for Nigerians to build private refineries and remove obstacles to doing so.
“It’s time to end hardship through conservative governance,” ACC declared. “Nigerians deserve compassionate leaders who genuinely care.”
The party promised a better Nigeria with conservative policies if elected in the next general elections.
