Peter Obi won’t run for presidency under LP in 2027 – Valentine Ozigbo

Valentine Ozigbo, a former Anambra State governorship candidate and ally of Peter Obi, has stated that he does not see a future for the Labour Party (LP) and believes Obi will not contest the 2027 presidency under its platform.

Ozigbo, who was a key member of the Obidient Movement and initially supported Obi’s presidential ambition under LP, made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022 to join the LP and support Obi. However, Ozigbo later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on February 19, 2025, citing his “unwavering commitment” to a broader vision for the state.

In his resignation letter, Ozigbo mentioned informing Obi of his decision as a sign of deep respect for his leadership.

During the television interview, Ozigbo said, “I don’t see a future for the Labour Party. I’m happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong.”

He further pointed out that Obi had previously switched political parties, moving from ANPP to APGA, then PDP, and eventually to LP. “I can almost guarantee that if he wishes to run for election, it’s not going to be under Labour Party,” he added.

Ozigbo stressed that he was not speaking on behalf of Obi but noted that he had been involved in many discussions about potential political coalitions, suggesting that there are likely other paths for Obi’s political future.
