PDP Senate Caucus says party is big enough to accommodate opposition coalition

The Senate Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asserted that the party is large enough to accommodate those seeking a platform for an opposition coalition.
The statement comes in response to reports that the party’s former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is leading efforts to form an opposition coalition, with speculations suggesting that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may be the chosen platform.
According to reports, Atiku’s decision to spearhead the coalition stems from internal conflicts within the PDP leadership. The coalition aims to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid, with former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai stating that it intends to retire Tinubu to Lagos State in 2027.
However, PDP’s Senate Minority Leader and Benue South Senator, Abba Moro, emphasized that the PDP should take the lead in driving the coalition. Speaking in Abuja, Moro stated, “As the biggest of all the opposition parties, the PDP umbrella is big enough to accommodate all persons desirous of coalition. The Peoples Democratic Party, therefore, should drive the coalition if and when it becomes necessary.”
Moro also addressed claims that the PDP is collapsing, pointing out that internal disagreements are not unique to the party. “The current conflicts in the PDP are not different from what other parties like the APC, Labour Party, and NNPP are facing,” he noted.
