PDP faction challenges impeachment notice against Rivers governor and deputy

On Tuesday, March 18, the factional leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers, led by Mr. Nname Ewor, spoke out against the impeachment notice served to Governor Siminalaye Fubara and his deputy by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

At a press conference in Port Harcourt, Ewor criticized the move, stating that the impeachment was not part of the Supreme Court ruling. He emphasized that the governor should be focused on fulfilling the court’s orders rather than being distracted by the impeachment notice.

“The impeachment of Governor Fubara was not part of the Supreme Court ruling, so the House should not be considering it at this time,” Ewor said. “The governor is working on implementing the Supreme Court’s decision, and that’s what should be the priority.”

Ewor called on the House of Assembly, led by Martins Amaewule, to choose peace and cooperation, and to focus on following through with the February 28 Supreme Court ruling.

The PDP faction also urged Governor Fubara to accelerate the implementation of the ruling and to ensure stability in local governance by holding local government elections. “We urge you, Governor Fubara, to move quickly in carrying out the Supreme Court ruling and also conduct the local government election since you have dissolved the previous council chairmen and councilors,” he said.

Ewor also encouraged the governor to stay committed to the upcoming 2025 budget presentation, which had faced resistance from lawmakers during a previous attempt. “We look forward to a positive outcome on the rescheduled budget presentation on March 19,” he added.

In conclusion, Ewor urged both the governor and lawmakers to focus on peace and collaboration to bring an end to the political unrest in the state and ensure smooth governance moving forward.
