Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has said only politicians who are genuinely committed to serving Nigerians, rather than pursuing personal interests, have the courage to leave their parties and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal made the remark on Wednesday while welcoming the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, into the ADC after he resigned his position and dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former governor urged politicians who believe they are working in the public interest to openly identify with the ADC, regardless of political pressure.
“Anyone who believes that what he is doing is for the people and for the sake of God, not for personal gain, should have the courage to leave any political party and join the ADC,” Tambuwal said.
He accused the APC of intimidating politicians planning to defect to the opposition while also attempting to create divisions within the ADC.
According to him, the ruling party now considers the ADC its biggest political threat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tambuwal also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the country’s worsening security situation, arguing that many Nigerians have become disillusioned with the APC because of continued insecurity.
He praised Kalenjeni for resigning from office before joining the ADC, describing the decision as a demonstration of sacrifice and commitment to the party’s ideals.
Tambuwal said the former council chairman joined the party without placing any conditions, adding that such commitment would strengthen the ADC as it prepares for future elections.
