Oligbo calls out Tinubu’s press secretary Onanuga on August 1 statement

Ike Oligbo, a seasoned politician and former Governorship aspirant in Anambra State, has responded to the controversy surrounding the planned nationwide protest on August 1.

Oligbo condemned Bayo Onanuga, the Press Secretary to the President, for what he calls an inappropriate and disgraceful statement blaming the Igbos for the protest. Oligbo criticized Onanuga for using tribal sentiments to manipulate and divide, which he believes threatens national unity.

Oligbo stated, “Onanuga’s comments were unbecoming of someone in his position. Fabricating allegations against the Igbos is both irresponsible and unjust.” He argued that the Igbos have shown no interest in the protest, and Onanuga’s statements were an attempt to falsely link them to it for political gain.

The award-winning business mogul warned against the dangers of ethnic divisiveness and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be cautious of individuals whose actions may undermine Nigeria’s democracy. He also called on the government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu immediately to foster national unity, pointing out the negative impact of his detention on the South-East region.

Oligbo remarked, “Nnamdi Kanu’s situation is no worse than other regional agitators who have not faced similar treatment. The government must understand that any harm coming to him could have severe and uncontrollable repercussions.”

He emphasized that Nigerians have the right to protest peacefully given the current economic and security challenges. “The current situation is untenable,” Oligbo said, “and cannot continue.”
