Ohanaeze Ndigbo urges Governor Soludo to bring Ebonyi killings suspects to justice

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called on Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, to take immediate action in bringing to justice the perpetrators behind the killing of thirteen Ebonyi State indigenes residing in Anambra.

The victims were shot dead on June 30, 2025, during their monthly peaceful gathering in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area, by unknown gunmen.

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday by the factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and National Spokesperson, Thompson Ohia, Ohanaeze condemned the attack, describing it as a “shocking and senseless violence” aimed at fostering hatred and undermining the peace between Anambra and Ebonyi states.

Ohanaeze declared a four-day mourning period to honor the victims and called on the Anambra government to swiftly identify and prosecute those responsible.

The group expressed alarm over the silence from Governor Soludo’s office more than 48 hours after the massacre, describing it as “deafening” and unacceptable. They urged the governor to provide a clear response to reassure the public and prevent further tensions.

Ohanaeze praised Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru for his prompt response and collaboration efforts with Anambra State to seek justice.

The organization emphasized the importance of maintaining peace between the two states and warned against forces attempting to inflame tensions through reprisals.

They further urged Governor Soludo to visit the bereaved families and meet with Governor Nwifuru as a demonstration of compassion and unity.

Concluding, Ohanaeze stressed that the responsibility lies with Governor Soludo to act decisively to preserve peace and uphold justice for the Igbo people.
