Ogun transport boss to Okada riders: ‘Put passenger safety first, go corporate!’

On Wednesday, May 7, the Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, urged motorcycle riders in the state to modernize their operations and focus more on keeping passengers safe.
Speaking during a visit from the executives of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) at his office in Abeokuta, Dairo said it was time for okada riders to embrace a corporate transport system and adopt practices that respect both passengers and the public.
He explained that the government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, is working hard to upgrade Ogun’s transport system—making it safer, more organized, and better for everyone.
Dairo also made it clear that only well-structured transport organizations with proper training and identification would be allowed to handle official transport-related revenue collection for the state.
“We’re building a modern transport system. We want safety, fair pricing, and a professional approach. Only groups that meet these standards will work with us,” Dairo said.
In response, Comrade Salaudeen Amoo, the Ogun State MOUN Chairman, thanked the governor for supporting the union’s growth.
He also said the union is ready to work closely with the government, promising to train members, help improve revenue generation, and fully support the shift to a corporate transport model that matches the state’s new policies.
