Ogun Housing Corporation hands 7-day ultimatum to illegal occupants, threatens legal action
The Ogun State Housing Corporation (OGSHC) has given a seven-day notice to people living in its housing estates without permission, asking them to move out and take down any unauthorized structures.
Wale Ojo, the General Manager, announced this during a recent enforcement check at the Idiroko Housing Estate in Ipokia Local Government Area. Ojo explained that the notice follows section 7 (1) of the Ogun State Housing Corporation Law 2006.
He said the check was to identify unauthorized developments, find out if any were not following the approved plans, and ensure that all buildings were in their correct positions according to the layout. “This exercise is about making sure everything is up to standard and in its right place,” Ojo added.
Ojo warned that if people do not follow the notice, their structures will be demolished, and they could face legal action and be charged for the cost of removing their illegal buildings.
Bunmi Oladeinde-Oluwakemi, the Director of Survey at the Corporation, emphasized that part of her team’s job is to keep track of illegal houses and ensure that all structures meet the Corporation’s standards. She noted that any concerns or documents from occupants would be reviewed before any demolition starts. “Residents should always check with the right government authorities before buying property,” she advised.
Babatunde Taiwo, speaking for the residents of the estate, promised to follow the Corporation’s orders but asked for a bit more time to comply with the notice.
