Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo spoke out on Friday, August 9, about the need for better leadership and teamwork to make positive changes in Nigeria.
Obasanjo, who was meeting with six lawmakers from the House of Representatives at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, highlighted that Nigeria needs to change how it is governed to move forward.
The lawmakers, led by Hon. Ugochinyere Ikenga, are pushing for important changes, including a single six-year term for the president and governors, rotating power between the North and South, and having all major elections on the same day.
Obasanjo also commented on the #EndBadGovernance protests, saying their demands are completely valid. He urged the government to listen to the people’s concerns and stop pretending that everything is okay.
He warned, “As I’ve said before, we are all sitting on a keg of gunpowder if we don’t start doing the right things… The youth’s demands are very legitimate and they need to be heard. They’re frustrated, hungry, angry, and unemployed. They deserve to be listened to.”
