On Thursday, April 3, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, encouraged Speakers and members of state Houses of Assembly across Nigeria to always put the needs of their people first.
Obasa made this statement while hosting the leadership of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria. The group, led by Edward Ogundoyin, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, visited Obasa to show their support.
Addressing the gathering, Obasa reminded lawmakers that their role is crucial for ensuring good governance in their states. He emphasized that effective legislation is essential for the overall growth and development of both states and the nation as a whole.
In a statement shared with DAILY POST, Obasa said, “Effective legislation plays an integral role in the overall socio-economic development of all states and the nation at large.” He added that lawmakers should always prioritize and respond to the needs of the people.
“Continue to legislate for the good governance of your states. Every legislature works under different rules and situations, but when the goal is legislative efficiency and effectiveness, you can’t go wrong,” Obasa stated.
He reminded his colleagues that being responsive to the people’s interests is key to achieving positive outcomes, just as it is in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
