NPFL: Enugu Rangers crash out CAF Champions League
Enugu Rangers were knocked out from the CAF Champions League after losing 3-1 away to Angolan club Sagrada Esperanca on Sunday, leaving Nigeria with no representative in the group stage.
Rangers went out 3-2 on aggregate after building a one-goal lead in the first leg of the second round.
Enyimba International FC of Aba remains the only Nigerian team left in the continental cup after the Aba-based side advanced to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup at the expense of Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso following a penalty shootout.
Both teams failed to score in both legs of this clash and it needed a penalty shootout to decide the overall winners.
Enyimba shaded it 3-2 to move ahead in the competition. Meanwhile, Nigeria will again not be represented in the money-spinning group stage of the CAF Champions League after NPFL champions Enugu Rangers crashed out in the playoffs to Angola’s Esperanca Sagrada.
Sagrada won 3-1 to go through to the group stage 3-2 on aggregate.
Nigeria’s other representatives in this year’s CAF Continental Cups, Remo Stars and El Kanemi Warriors were knocked out in the previous round of the Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.
